How to estimate the volume of your move
Volume is measured in cubic metres (m³). It decides the size of the truck, the number of movers and a large part of the price.
A common rule of thumb: about half of the living area in square metres. A 60 m² flat is often 25 to 35 m³, depending on how furnished it is. A cellar, a garage or a large bookcase can add several cubic metres.
The most reliable method is a room-by-room inventory, as above: every item has its own volume, boxes included. Count roughly one standard box per square metre of living space for small belongings.
Which truck for which volume?
| 12 m³ | Studio, small flat |
|---|---|
| 20 m³ | One- or two-bedroom flat |
| 30 m³ | Two- or three-bedroom flat |
| 45 to 50 m³ | Large flat, house |
| Articulated lorry | Large house, over 50 m³ |
Indicative values: the real volume depends on how much furniture you have, not only on the floor area.
Frequently asked questions
Is the calculator free?
Yes, completely. You can work out your volume without leaving any details; the quote request form is optional.
Should I count boxes?
Yes. You will find them in every room: a standard box is about 0.07 m³, a book box about 0.04 m³.
Is the calculated volume final?
It is an estimate. The mover checks it with you, often during a survey, before confirming the quote.
What happens to my data?
It is only used to put you in touch with movers for your request. Nothing is sent until you submit the form.
